Churches Take A Corner

Making a Difference in the Community

Who We Are

Purpose: Identifying, recruiting, training, and assisting volunteers to mentor people who are negatively impacted by social determinants.

Mission: To ameliorate marginalized communities while incorporating conflict resolution, trauma interventions, and peer-to-peer techniques of communication to improve public safety.

Vision: To work closely and in alliance with faith-based organizations, community-based citizens, secular businesses, governmental organizations, and law enforcement agencies; to provide necessary wrap-around services, to increase public safety, childhood advocacy, and overall personal well-being for all people.

History: Churches Take A Corner (CTAC) was founded in 1998 as a street outreach and intervention organization under the leadership of Rev. Tyrone C. Johnson, Sr.  Faith-based organizations came together, regardless of being a church, mosque, or synagogue, to reduce drug use caused by mental and physical abuse, as well as other activities that had a negative impact on our communities. CTAC made history in the state of Delaware by becoming the first faith-based organization to rehabilitate over 1,300 people with addictions statewide.

In 2020, after fully recovering from a debilitating disease, Rev. Johnson implemented “Peace on the Streets” as a solution for the amelioration of gun violence and anti-social behavior.  CTAC has documented measurable and proven results that have demonstrated increased public safety.

Today, while churches, mosques, and synagogues are still the cornerstone of CTAC, we are doing business as ‘Citizens Take A Corner’.  CTAC’s purpose as a child advocacy and public safety organization is to develop responsible adult leaders and to create platforms for innovative solutions to guide people to non-violent responses, promote physical safety, and peaceful resolutions.  The collective/collaborative initiatives that are developed and executed are designed to improve our communities’ living conditions.

True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice.

Volunteer Opportunities

CTAC volunteers are committed to help the citizens of their communities overcome the various traumas of their lives.  This dedication goes beyond a typical eight-hour day.  CTAC’s mantra is “Healing beyond bullies, pandemics, and bullets,” which requires the organization to partner with all levels of government, and other agencies to achieve its mission.

Our volunteers will be equipped, beyond the skills and talents that they already possess, through CTAC’s training programs to elevate to new degrees of helping citizens in trauma.  Our neighborhoods have been impacted with crime, violence, domestic and child abuse and, as a result, our citizens’ lack of resources and/or opportunities causes them to live a life of hopelessness and continued violence. Our volunteers make the difference.
